Celotex Under Siding

Before i answer this question let me give you a little background on vinyl siding installation in our area.

I m going to be removing all of it and putting up new zip system sheathing and then new vinyl siding. Can i remove the wood and side over celotex. My house has the black celotex fiber board under the aluminum siding on the first story and plywood on the second. Thousands of houses in my area built like that when i started in 1970 we used i sheet of ply in the corners and the rest was celotex now they are using 1 sheet of 1 2 osb in the corners and 1 2 foam board on the rest vinyl siding on that i don t know why we bothere with locks as anyone could go right thru any wall in 10 minutes with a hammer. Celotex was founded in the early 1920s as a fiberboard insulation company. The problem is i don t have the budget for vinyl siding and sheeting.

The current siding is a wood lathe siding that is at the end of its life. Asbestos is a heat resistant mineral that was added to many celotex products to make them fireproof. The company grew throughout the 20th century and expanded its product line to include a variety of construction materials such as roofing shingles and siding. Also i was thinking of house wrapping this before siding just to seal it up a little better.

Is the rigid foam board under vinyl siding really insulating your home. I will hit the studs.
